Google Dashboard – Transparency, Choice And Control – I Don’t Think So

Google today announced the latest offering – Google Dashboard. In a blog post, Google offered this new feature to the general public stating its continuous endeavor for transparency, choice and control. Everybody is praising this as “Don’t be evil” Google.  But I don’t see it as much of “Don’t be evil” thing. Google is claiming to provide the information it knows about you through the medium of dashboard. But this dashboard doesn’t contain much of the real knowledge Google collects about a person. It’s just showing some tidbits like number of emails in Gmail, number of documents in Docs, reader stats, YouTube videos you have watched and all other such google services you are using. But is that the real information or knowledge google has about you?

Google Trends Showing Up On Google Search Pages

I was just researching for the next post for the GoosPoos, I got this search result page which is showing Google Trends result on it. It shows how hot is that search term and on which number it’s placed on most popular search in the past hour. Very useful information. I see it as one more step in the direction of real-time search by Google. Seems it is also including results from Google Blogsearch.

Twitter Inks Deal With Microsoft, Google

twitter-googleLast Wednesday, Twitter sold rights to both search giants Google and Microsoft (Bing) for indexing tweets in their search results. Both claims it to be revolutionary in terms of real-time search. Read their respective blog posts about deal at Google Blog and Bing Blog. It looks like Microsoft took lead over Google in the same day deal. As Microsoft representative quoted, “Bing would be the best way outside of Twitter’s own web site to find out what people are Tweeting. Bing will provide you Real Time tweet results.”

After A Year Google Releases Chrome 3.0

Google Godfather – Rajeev Motwani’s Life Celebration On 25th September

Rajeev-MotwaniRajeev Motwani- might be this name seems unfamiliar to many, but in the technology world and at Stanford University ( Google born from this university ), he was a very respectable person and mentor in whole. Rajeev passed away on June 5, 2009.

Google Co-founder Sergey Bin wrote in his Blog in the memory of Rajeev, this article. Sergey remembers Rajeev as mentor and friend.

Rajeev was a professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. His homepage at Stanford University here. His research interests included Databases, data mining, information retrieval, and web searching. Motwani was one of the co-authors ( With Larry Page and Sergey Bin- Google co-founders ) of influential PageRank Algorithm. And the people who knows about how google works, knows the importance of Pagerank Algorithm. One can say – The Google is PageRank Algorithm. Motwani never seemed to care about that limelight. He was quietly working for the technology which is affecting every one of us who uses Google today and forever. He was an early advisor and supporter of Google and Paypal.
