Microsoft COFEE (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor) is software that easily captures significant “live & volatile” computer evidence in cyber-crime investigations, without special forensics expertise. Let me explain in detail, COFEE is a USB device pre-configured with specific software that helps cyber-crime investigator to collect VOLATILE LIVE EVIDENCE in reliable and cost-effective manner. For example, files/information that are stored in RAM would be lost if the computer had been shut down. An investigator with minimal computer knowledge can be tutored to use COFEE in 10 minutes.

Twitter Inks Deal With Microsoft, Google

twitter-googleLast Wednesday, Twitter sold rights to both search giants Google and Microsoft (Bing) for indexing tweets in their search results. Both claims it to be revolutionary in terms of real-time search. Read their respective blog posts about deal at Google Blog and Bing Blog. It looks like Microsoft took lead over Google in the same day deal. As Microsoft representative quoted, “Bing would be the best way outside of Twitter’s own web site to find out what people are Tweeting. Bing will provide you Real Time tweet results.”

What Is Tablet PC And Where You Can Use It?

tablet_pcMany people are not much familiar with the term ‘Tablet PC” because of its limited popularity till today. Keep in mind, Tablet PC is altogether different from eReaders like Amazon Kindle or B&N Nook. But Tablet concept expected to rise once major players will come into the picture, like Microsoft, Apple etc. Microsoft is planning to launch ‘Courier Tablet PC’ and Apple will be releasing ‘iPad Mac Tablet’. Both are expected to come in market in mid-2010. Few Tablet PC manufacturers are already in this business like Acer, HP, LG, IBM, and Panasonic.

Enterprise Portal Basics : For Geeks!!

navigation-print-fullAn enterprise portal, also known as an enterprise information portal (EIP) or corporate portal, is a framework for integrating information, people and processes across organizational boundaries. It provides a secure unified access point, often in the form of a web-based user interface, and is designed to aggregate and personalize information through application-specific portlets. One hallmark of enterprise portals is the de-centralized content contribution and content management, which keeps the information always updated.

The mid-1990s saw the advent of public Web portals like AltaVista, AOL, Excite, and Yahoo!. These sites provided a key set of features (e.g., news, e-mail, weather, stock quotes, and search) that were often presented in self-contained boxes or portlets. Before long, enterprises of all sizes began to see a need for a similar starting place for their variety of internal repositories and applications, many of which were migrating to Web-based technologies.

By the late 1990s, software vendors began to produce prepackaged enterprise portals. These software packages would be toolkits for enterprises to quickly develop and deploy their own customized enterprise portal. (more…)
