How To Import JSON Bookmarks In Firefox
Bookmarks are a way to store your favourite article links in the browser. When you buy new PC or tablet, you want your saved bookmarks in old machine to be transferred. There are two ways to backup bookmarks in Firefox, HTML or JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) file.
Importing HTML bookmarks is easy and intuitive as there is option “Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Import Bookmarks from HTML…“. This option lets you restore bookmarks stored in HTML format.
But what if you have backup file format in JSON? Ok, there’s no direct option like HTML backup. It’s rather hidden. Go to “Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Restore->Choose File” and there you can see dialog to choose JSON backup file.
But wait, there’s one problem. When you choose the JSON file and press OK, it asks “This will replace all of you current bookmarks with the backup. Are you sure?“. No dude, I’m not sure about that because I’ve already tons of bookmarks in current machine. I don’t want to lose them. How you will do that?
Here’s a way. First take a backup of your current bookmarks in HTML format via “Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Export bookmarks to HTML…“. Restore bookmarks from JSON file as described above. When it says to replace all current bookmarks, say OK (as you’ve backup of current bookmarks in HTML format). Now go again to “Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Import bookmarks from HTML…“. Choose the HTML file you just saved to backup current bookmarks. There you go. You have all the bookmarks – current and old.
