Zombies, Run! Running Game With Twist Of Storytelling
We could all use a little motivation to work out now and then, but development team Six to Start has created a unique concept in their upcoming game/adventure called Zombies, Run!. The premise is that any real world running you complete helps a story driven adventure where you can collect supplies and find other benefits for your colony. The more you run, the more supplies you collect and the more story is told as you listen to the app.
Zombies, Run! is currently being financed on Kickstarter and as such, it isn’t quite available to the public yet, but in less than a week, Six to Start has managed to raise $30,000 from iPhone and Android users hungry to take part in a little bit of variety in their exercise routines. The game is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2012, with an Android app following shortly after.
The Premise
Zombies, Run! provides an interactive audio adventure while users run through a “zombie apocalypse” involving their real world running schedule. Each player in the game is a survivor of the apocalypse known as Runner 5. Runner 5′s job is to collect items that are essential for the community to survive. Each player’s contributions to the base help as players can allocate their supplies however they see fit. With each allocation, the runner’s community grows and new content can be unlocked to be experienced while running.
As the player runs, specific orders can be heard through voice recordings. These recordings lend to the atmosphere of being the lone survivor in an apocalyptic setting. At specific intervals of distances ran, the app will then make available new puzzles, documents, and information to players so they can begin piecing together what caused the zombie apocalypse and how to combat it. In addition to this data, the app keeps track of your running stats, such as the distance traveled and how many calories you burned in one session.
The unique premise of Zombies, Run! is a good motivator for people who find themselves lacking the motivation for running. By working together with other runners who are using the app, you can get your daily exercise out of the way with a sense of accomplishment in that you’re doing more than keeping yourself in shape. Most locative apps require you to be within a specific area in order to help, but Zombies, Run! can be played at any time and for as long as a player wants. The content is set up so that once a player unlocks it through distance traveled and time spent running, it can be applied to any community of choice.

Where Can I Get it?
