I used to browse Youtube videos and sometimes those are such an outstanding, I can’t resist downloading them to my local drive. Earlier I tried some online websites but it was over killing. For example, usually I enter ‘download Youtube video online‘ query in Google then check for the right site and open it, copy paste Youtube URL and press save. It takes around 30-40 clicks compared to truly 1 click solution that I am going to demonstrate. Also, There are lacs of software to download Youtube videos (OK! I exaggerated. Make it hundreds at least.) but I was reluctant to download and install any Executable software on my system.

Then one fine day, I came across outstanding Firefox add-ons and almost screamed like ‘Yippee!! This is the one’. It comes with unbeatable usability. After installing this add-on you will find download link just below youtube video or in navigation bar. When you want to download it, just click on the link and store it in local drive. Truly one-click solution! I have listed such three similar and most popular Firefox add-ons below,

1. Video DownloadHelper
  • This add-on allows you to download FLV, MP4 formats only. However if you want to enable more download format options like WMV, MOV, 3GP, AVI, MPEG and also iPhone, iPod, Zune specific options, you need to install one converter application on machine. Know More.
  • Apart from Youtube, it works with MySpace, Google videos, DailyMotion, iFilm, DreamHost and many others.

  • Works with Youtube only
  • Download options are limited to FLV, 3GP, MP4.
  • No caching.

Below were the live updates for Youtube’s server side change that stopped video downloading by any mean but very soon these add-ons bounced back and started working!! Now, no need to read it unless you want to appreciate our proactiveness. :D

Kind Attention Please! (Updated on 24th July, 2010)

Two days back, on 22nd July 2010, Youtube made some changes and after that below listed add-ons have stopped working! Now, these add-ons download 0 bytes and finish the download abruptly. I am keeping eye on the updates of these add-ons and I will update you once they become active once again. ‘Video Download Helper’ was very quick and it released updated add-on in beta version to counter the challenge by Youtube, Impressive!

‘Video DownloadHelper 4.8′ Firefox add-on is working fine now. I have tried downloading several videos and it works!  A very quick response to Youtube by Video DownloadHelper Team. Hats off to those developers! Go.. Go.. Go.. Enjoy downloading! Below listed, first and second add-ons are still failing, hope to see them working too.

’1-Click YouTube Video Download  1.5′ and ‘Easy YouTube Video Downloader  3.5′ are compliant with the new Youtube changes according to Firefox Plugin central. I have also cross checked once and they seem fine. :)

    Hey I am using downloadhelper.. its a firefox pluggin.. u cn download any streaming video or any media link frm ur page.. in case of youtube u hv option to download it in all resolutions

    Really works..? gonna try it I am using Internet download manager when I’m going to download a video in youtube. I can do 1 click download also but need to install a software. thank you for sharing I didn’t notice it before.

    We developed a Video Downloader for Firefox and Internet Explorer (available her: http://www.ant.com/video-downloader/). People says it is easier to use than downloadhelper and it works on many more sites than it. Give it a try :)

    None of those programs work as of July 22nd.Youtube changed something and now those add ons don’t work.Download helper only works with SOME videos but most of them say 0 bytes and won’t download.I wish someone would fix this as soon as possible.

    jepp, seem to have the same problem :(
    So sad. On YT, downloadhelper only downloads one video at a time after it’s been played.
    Damn, and I REALY NEED to download some videos for my study.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the Tips – It would seem Download Helper is Broken again ‘Testing 10/08/2010 with the 0bytes and download competed immediately’ file size 0bytes :-(

    I downloaded and installed the addon – about 1/2hr ago and sadly. It doesn’t work.

    Lets hope they are as quick as you stated above at fixing it this time.

    Dear qt101,
    I have tried downloading few more videos and it seems fine. Sometimes it happens like downloading fails for particular videos but it happens rarely. So, you try downloading few more videos and check. Make sure you are using latest Firefox (say Version 3.6.8) and Video DownloadHelper 4.8.
    Also, now ’1-Click YouTube Video Download’ addon has started working. Download the latest version and enjoy..

    I use youtube downloader app developed by pico brothers to download videos on my symbian based Nokia C7. It supports HD videos too, it can play nd download at the same time. Supports any symbian 3 or anna updated devices like; C6-01, C7, N8, E7, etc.
