Google – What’s Cooking? Countdown On Home Page!!

google-count-down-thumbSomething big and special is about to happen at Google, it seems. As I read from this article, Google.com home page showing countdown. On Google.com when you press “I’m Feeling Lucky” button without entering any query in the search box, you can see the countdown in big blue fonts!! Countdown to what? From calculations, it appears that Google is counting to 2010 new year till Jan 1 midnight. But still my curious mind can’t get that story to new year countdown on Google home page. Even smallest changes like increasing size of Google search box made news at Google itself. So what’s cooking inside Google right now? Past week or two were quite eventful for Google, as it released real-time search, Google Goggles, Google chrome extensions, Google chrome for Mac/Linux, Google open DNS and home page fade effect. One very interesting and thought provoking article about “what countdown is for?” suggests that, Google will kill “I’m Feeling Lucky” button for money (Yeah, about $330 million).

Looking at the history of Google, it seems they are used to create buzz about their new products with these kind of gigs. Anybody remember the April fool’s gig for Gmail launch in 2004? So is it about Google Caffeine, Google Phone, Google Tablet or Google just solved the Mayan calender end to 2010? Nothing can be said for sure as Google has not any official word for that. Or is it just a plain simple countdown to New Year? What’s your opinion?
