How To Show Line Numbers In Microsoft Word 2007 Documents

This is very basic thing, but I wanted to share this as still many people find it difficult to show line numbers in word documents. Earlier we’ve seen how to count words in word documents. By default  word document doesn’t show the line numbers.

Open your word document. You can see different tabs in ribbon. Click on the ‘Page Layout‘. Now see the ‘Line Numbers‘ button in the ribbon area. Click on that and you can see drop-down menu. There are different options like, ‘None’, ‘Continuous’, ‘Restart Each Page’ etc. Our option of interest is ‘Continuous‘. Click on ‘Continuous’ menu item and voila, you can see the line numbers on your word document. ‘Continuous’ option will set line numbers for in continuous fashion throughout all the pages of your document. The other option of interest is ‘Restart Each Page’. This option set line numbers for a each page separately. It restarts numbering from ’1′ for each page in the document. Have a look at the screen-shot of showing line numbers in word document.
