Twitter + Airtel : Now Use Twitter Via SMS Through Your Airtel Mobile Phone In India

twitter-airtelIn the strategic move to gain the advantage of large tehcno-savvy Indian population, Twitter recently announced an exclusive deal with Bharti Airtel. Airtel is also promoting this deal prominently through advertising on various online newspaper editions as well as Television. See the Airtel campaign here. Airtel punchline for the campaign goes something like this “Share from anywhere. Twitter on SMS, only on Airtel”. Now you can send updates to your Twitter account via SMS from your Airtel mobile phone. Let’s see how you can do that.

How you can use this?

  • If you don’t have a Twitter account, Write “Signup” in your message (SMS) and send it to 53000. Follow the instructions afterwords to complete the process. (Each message will cost 1Re.)
  • If you have twitter account and you want to link that to your mobile phone number, write “Start” in your message (SMS) and send it to 53000.
  • Other option to link your mobile number with your twitter ID is, go to the Twitter Devices page. Follow the steps.

Once your mobile number is linked with your twitter ID, you can write update in your SMS and send it to 53000, it will directly posted to your Twitter account. Your followers will be able to see your updates in real-time. Here’s an official list of all Twitter text commands that you can send from a mobile phone to interact with your Twitter stream.

Sending tweets from mobile phone will charge you 1 Re for each tweet you send. Receiving twitter updates is totally free. To stop getting Twitter updates on your mobile phone, just send OFF, STOP, or QUIT command from your mobile phone to 53000 or use “ON” to start again.

If you don’t have an Airtel connection, don’t worry. This is an exclusive contract for a month and soon this service will be available for other networks like Idea, Reliance, TATA Indicom etc.
